ALBERTVILLE – Sand Rock split its Class 2A East Central Softball Regional games in Albertville on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats dropped their opener 5-1 to Sumiton Christian, but rebounded to take a 13-3 decision over Southeastern in six innings.
In the loss to Sumiton Christian, Sand Rock held a 1-0 lead through 3 ½ innings, but Sumiton Christian rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the win.
Katelyn StClair and EllaGrace Hood led the Lady Wildcats at the plate. Both had a pair of hits, including a double apiece. Hood drove in StClair for the Lady Wildcats’ only run.
Sherina Foster and Lilly Clanton had a hit apiece. Aliyah King drew a walk.
Jadyn Foster suffered the loss after working four innings. She gave up all five runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Hood tossed two innings of three-hit ball with a strikeout.
In the win over Southeastern, StClair and Jadyn Foster both belted out four hits. All four of Jadyn Foster’s hits were doubles. She drove in five runs and scored another. StClair scored four runs and drove in one.
Sherina Foster tripled and drove in three runs. Briley Knight also tripled, scored a run and drove in another. Lacey Barnette added a hit, two runs and a RBI. Rylin StClair had a hit. Hood walked three times and scored a run. Emma Sipsy walked and scored twice. Clanton walked and scored a run.
Jadyn Foster picked up the win. She surrendered an earned run on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Hood worked two innings of three-hit ball with an earned run, three walks and a pair of strikeouts.
Sand Rock battles Pisgah on Friday morning at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.
