The Gadsden State Cardinals Athletic Department will host summer basketball, cross country and volleyball camps for students in first grade through high school.
“Gadsden State has sponsored summer youth enrichment activities for more than 20 years and it’s good to be able to provide this opportunity for our local athletes,” said Dr. Kathy Murphy, Gadsden State president. “With the return of our baseball and softball programs, we hope to be able to offer camps for those sports as well in the near future.”
A basketball team camp for varsity and junior varsity boys will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6. The registration fee is $100 per team. Contact Deddric Tarver, Cardinals head coach and camp director, at 205-368-2353 by May 24 to register.
Youth basketball skills camps for boys and girls in first through eighth grades will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 20-21 and June 27-28. Registration fee is $50 per camper to attend one of the two-day camps.
Individual basketball skills camps for boys and girls in second through 12th grades will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 11-12 and July 21-22. Registration fee is $50 per camper to attend one of the two-day camps.
Camp directors for basketball will be Tarver and the Lady Cardinals head coach Bryan Phillips.
A volleyball skills camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon July 26 for second through sixth grades. The registration fee is $40 per camper.
A volleyball prospect camp for sophomore, junior and senior girls will be from 9 a.m. to noon July 27. This skills camp is for those interested in playing at the college level and is limited to the first 50 who register. The registration fee is $60 per camper.
A volleyball team play date will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 28 for varsity players. Registration fee is $100 per team.
For play dates scheduling purposes and the prospect camp, participants must contact Courtney Brothers, Cardinals volleyball coach and camp director, at cbrothers@gadsdenstate.edu by July 1 to register.
A cross country clinic for boys and girls in seventh through 12th grades will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 20. This camp includes speakers who will discuss flexibility, strength, skills training, goal setting and nutrition. Coaches may attend free of charge but must register. Lunch will be provided for all attendees. Free t-shirts will be given to those taking advantage of the early bird special, which is $35 per person. Registration must be completed and payment received by June 1. Registration cost after June 1 is $40 per person. The deadline to register for the clinic is July 1.
