Warrior boys finish fourth, Lady Warriors seventh in Class 4A state track and field meet

GULF SHORES – The Cherokee County Warriors finished fourth and the Lady Warriors finished seventh at the Class 4A state track and field meet in Gulf Shores over the weekend.

The Warriors earned 41 total team points. Anniston won the 4A boys meet with 75 points, followed by Bibb County (67) and Haleyville (47).

The Lady Warriors tallied 31 points. Brooks won the girls meet with 90 points, followed by White Plains and Randolph, which tied with 60 points.

The Warrior boys were led by their 4×100 meter relay team, which took first place with a time of 42.95 seconds. The 4×400 relay team was second with a time of 3:25.90.

CJ Gresham placed second in the 400 meter dash (50.13). He was also ninth in the 200 meter dash (22.76).

Whit Johnson took fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.22), followed by Alex Johnson in sixth place (11.44). Alex Johnson also came in sixth in the 200 meter dash (22.73).

Alex Loyd was ninth in the javelin (144-04). Lamycal Mitchell was 13th in the 300 meter hurdles (43.93) and 20th in the 110 meter hurdles (18.76). Landon Caldwell claimed 18th in the high jump (5-04).

In the boys ambulatory events, Jack Sammit won the shot put (10-6), the 100 meter (23.36), and the 200 meter (50.68). Daniel Burton took first in the shot put (14-10).

In the girls events, the Lady Warriors were led by their 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams, which both took first place. The Lady Warriors’ time in the 4×100 was 50.04 seconds. Their time in the 4×400 was 4:09.13. Cherokee County’s girls were also 10th in the 4×800 meter (11:31.88).

Mary Hayes Johnson finished fourth in the 100 meter (12.89). She was also sixth in the 400 meter (1:01.38).

Anna Grace Brock earned sixth in the 100 meter (13.31), followed by Donice Dupree in 10th (13.09). Dupree was also 13th in the 200 meter (27.52).

Audrey Green finished 14th in the long jump (13-7.75), and Ella Garmany took 16th in the 300 meter hurdles (54.45).
