Alabama has the potential to be affected by several rounds of storms from Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has forecast the potential for severe storms for parts of Alabama both days, with Friday’s storm threat being more widespread. Isolated severe storms will be possible on Thursday (mainly Thursday night).

It shows a Level 1 (or marginal) risk for a part of north and west Alabama, mainly Thursday night. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

Thursday’s storms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail.

Friday has a slightly higher potential for severe storms; forecasters have most of the state in a Level 2 (or a slight) risk for severe weather on Friday, as a cold front moves into the state.

The rest of the state (northwest and southeast Alabama) will have a Level 1 risk for isolated severe storms.

Friday’s storms could also bring damaging winds but they could also have hail up to the size of ping pong balls. Friday’s storms could arrive in the form of a squall line, which could enter northwest Alabama on Friday morning to track southward and eastward through the day, according to forecasters.
