Cedar Bluff blanks Gaylesville, clinches spot in Class 1A, Area 13 softball championship game

CEDAR BLUFF – Mattie Payne went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 10-0 victory in five innings over Gaylesville in the Class 1A, Area 13 softball tournament on Tuesday.

Harlie Nelson collected a pair of hits, a walk, a run and two RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Ciana Smith contributed two hits, two runs and a RBI. Natalie Baty also added two hits, a run and a RBI.

Haley Allen hit her first homer and drove in two runs. Jordyn Walker managed a hit, a run and a RBI. Emma Haney finished with a hit and scored a run. Kindal Grace walked and scored a pair of runs. Reece Patterson drove in a run.

Patterson picked up the win in the circle. She tossed all five innings, surrendering just a hit and a walk with eight strikeouts.

Gaylesville’s Shonda Epps had the lone hit for the Lady Trojans. Sierra Holbrook walked. Coker suffered the loss.

Gaylesville also defeated Valley Head 16-1 in the tournament opener. The Lady Trojans will face Valley Head again on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner will take on Cedar Bluff in the area championship game at 7 p.m.
