Sand Valley Landfill in Collinsville Fined for Violations Dating Back to 2020

The Sand Valley Landfill, located in Collinsville (Alabama), has reportedly been fined for violations dating back to September of 2020.

The landfill, which is operated by Republic Services is made up of over 230 acres and accepts approximately 1,600 tons of waste daily from a dozen counties in Alabama as well as Chattooga, Walker, and Dade counties in Georgia, and as far away as Hamilton County in Tennessee.  The violations consist of: failure to cover waste properly, failure to confine waste to a small area, failure to apply for permit modifications prior to construction and failure to control unauthorized discharges among others.

The parent company that operates the landfill has agreed to pay a civil penalty in the amount of $33,600 and correct all existing infractions.
