Coosa Valley RC&D Celebrates Grant Day Across Cherokee County

On Monday, Coosa Valley RC&D, a non-profit organization, specializing in bringing people and partners together to identify and implement solutions addressing local issues, partnered with Senator Andrew Jones and Rep. Ginny Shaver to tour Cherokee county, celebrating and promoting several projects funded in FY 2020 and 2021 by Coosa Valley RC&D. Over the past 2 years, these partnerships were able to invest $ 49,383 in Cherokee County.

The McCord’s Fire Department received $3,500 to purchase basic life support monitors and $7,000 to purchase tablets and safety docking stations, as well as reporting software.

The Spring Garden High School FFA Department was awarded $2,983.37 to purchase ten land judging instructional equipment guides, chain saws, chaps and gloves.

$3,500 was also awarded to the JFK (Hatcher) Community Center in Centre to build a pavilion and help toward the purchase of playground equipment.

The Cherokee County High School FFA Department received $3,000 to purchase cordless drills, hand tools, a drill press, metric and standard wrenches and an irrigation system for their green house. Additionally, $2,000 was awarded to enable students to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In Cedar Bluff, the FFA Department received $2,000 to enable students to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis and received $2,978 to purchase fencing, posts, penning, gates, feeders, water bins and storage for the FFA & AG lamb lab.

Gaylesville School was awarded funds in the amount of $5,700 to assist students on how to learn to use a transit for leveling and grading.

The RC&D program secures funding from state and local agencies, private foundations, and federal partnerships to disperse through community grant requests. Coosa Valley RC&D, one of nine (9) councils that cover Alabama, serves East Central Alabama which includes the following counties: Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Etowah, Randolph, St. Clair, Talladega and Tallapoosa. The office is located in Heflin, Alabama.
