Hood’s homer helps Sand Rock split softball doubleheader with Piedmont

SAND ROCK – EllaGrace Hood delivered a walk-off home run to help the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats earn a softball split with visiting Piedmont on Friday. Hood’s homer lifted Sand Rock to a 10-9 win. Piedmont claimed a 7-4 victory in the first game.

Hood went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the nightcap. She also picked up the win in the circle after tossing four innings. She didn’t allow a hit or an earned run with three walks and five strikeouts.

Katelyn StClair was also 3-for-5 with a homer and a double. Brylie Knight went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and scored twice. Rylin StClair also went 3-for-4 with a run. Jadyn Foster went 2-for-5 with a run.

Aliyah King homered and drove in three runs. Lilly Clanton contributed a hit. Lacey Barnette walked and scored a run.

Cayla Brothers homered and drove in four runs to lead Piedmont. Savannah Smith doubled and scored a run.

In the opener, Smith 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI for Piedmont. She also earned the win in the circle after working three innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Carson Young went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Brothers doubled and scored a run.

Knight went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run for Sand Rock. Rylin StClair was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Sherina Foster also went 2-for-4.

Hood had a hit, a walk and a RBI. Katelyn StClair also added a hit with a run and two RBIs. Jadyn Foster and Lacey Barnette were both 1-for-4 with a run.

Jadyn Foster suffered the loss after working 3 1/3 innings. She gave up six earned runs on nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
