A Gadsden man has died at the Etowah County Detention Center according to Sheriff Jonathon Horton.

During a security check during the night an inmate was found in distress. Medical staff at the jail started medical care immediately and an ambulance was called. Unfortunately lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was called and opened an investigation.. The evidence will then be presented to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office. The deceased has been transported to State Forensic Lab in Huntsville for Medical Examination. This is standard procedure for an outside agency to come in and investigate an internal case

At this time the name of subject will not be released pending next of kin notification and due to ongoing investigation.

Nothing further will be released from Etowah County Sheriff’s Office due to Marshall County Taking over the case.
