Pruett provides game-winning hit in Warrior baseball playoff split at Brooks

KILLEN – Cherokee County High School senior first baseman Walker Pruett didn’t want the Warriors’ baseball season to end Friday night at Brooks in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

Pruett provided a walk-off single to score the winning run in the Warriors’ 13-12 victory to tie the series at a game apiece. The Warriors lost game one 9-4. Game three is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

Jeb Crane led the Warrior offense in the second game with three hits. He also scored twice and drove in a run. Connor Wilson collected a pair of hits, a pair of walks and a RBI. Haden Wheeler had two hits, a walk, two runs, and a RBI.

Cooper Rodgers had a hit, a walk, two runs and a RBI. Malachi Horton walked three times, had a hit, a run and a RBI. Tristan Whitefield came away with a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI. Jackson Waldrop added a hit, a run and a RBI. Luke Young finished with a hit and scored a run.

Daegan Scott tossed 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win in the second game. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

In the first game, Wilson suffered the loss after working five innings. He scattered 12 hits with seven strikeouts.

At the plate, Wilson delivered a pair of hits, including a homer, with a walk and a RBI. Horton also had two hits, two runs and a RBI. Rodgers added a pair of hits, including a double, with a run.

Crane contributed a hit, a walk and a RBI. Whitefield finished with a hit and a RBI.
