The final Alabama Sports Writers Association softball and baseball rankings were released early Thursday morning, and there were some slight changes for area teams.

Class 2A Spring Garden (15-10) remained at No. 6 in the Class 2A softball poll, while Class 3A Piedmont (16-14) dropped a spot to No. 8 and Class 1A Cedar Bluff (18-8-2) held steady at No. 10. Class 2A Sand Rock (18-15) continued to receive a nomination.

In baseball, Piedmont (27-4) remains the top team in Class 3A. The Bulldogs host Sylvania on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. to open the state playoffs. A third game, if necessary, will be played Saturday at 2 p.m.

Class 1A Cedar Bluff (11-11) dropped out of the rankings this week after coming in at No. 9 last week. Sand Rock (7-7) and Spring Garden (14-14) continued to receive a nomination in Class 2A.

Spring Garden travels to Falkville (15-10) to open the state playoffs on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. A third game, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
