Search For Drowning Victim In The Coosa River Continues

The search for a drowning victim in the Coosa River near Coosa Landing entered its fifth day Wednesday.

According to Breonna Cole, Public Information Officer for the Gadsden/Etowah County EMA, as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the victim has not been found.

Cole said that multiple boats with sonar and mapping technology, as well as dragging capabilities have been utilized in recovery efforts. Other resources that have been deployed include helicopters, dive teams, drones, search and rescue teams, and more. Many agencies and organizations have aided in recovery efforts: Gadsden Fire Department, Gadsden Police Department, The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden/Etowah County EMA, Rainbow City Fire Department, Southside Fire Department, Hokes Bluff Fire Department, Tidmore Bend Volunteer Fire Department, Ballplay Bend Volunteer Fire Department, Coates Bend Volunteer Fire Department, The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, North Alabama Search Dog Association, Alabama Fish and Game, and Alexander City Rescue. Operations are still ongoing.

Units were dispatched to the Coosa Landing just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday to a report that witnesses saw someone jump from the Memorial Bridge.
