Spring Garden splits area baseball doubleheader with Sand Rock

SPRING GARDEN – Cam Welsh delivered a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Landon Gowens doubled and scored the winning run from second base on an error on a pick-off attempt in Spring Garden’s 10-9 area baseball win over visiting Sand Rock on Thursday.

The Panthers lost the second game by the final of 13-4.

In the first game, Gowens led the Panthers at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two runs. Welsh was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Chapel Pope collected a hit, two walks, two runs and a RBI. Andrew Bates added a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI. Reece Winstead had a hit, a walk and a run. Chaz Pope walked, scored a run and drove in another. Gavin Bass walked and scored a run. Denver Jarrett drove in a run.

Jarrett drove in the game-tying run on a sacrifice bunt scoring Bass from third.

Jarrett and Winstead pitched for the Panthers. They both gave up three hits, with Winstead striking out four batters in three innings and Jarrett fanning three in four innings of work.

Slade StClair led Sand Rock with three hits.
