Sylvania Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Accident that Claimed Life of 14 Year Old

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said his department was proud to assist Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials in the arrest of a suspect charged with first causing – then leaving the scene of an accident that claimed the life of a 14 year old Crossville resident over the weekend.

Around 10:20 Saturday night (April 2nd) a 2003 Honda CH-80 motorcycle was struck from behind, fatally injuring the teenager who was a passenger on the bike; that took place on Alabama Highway 75, approximately three miles south of Geraldine.

The vehicle was later determined to be a 2016 Chevy Equinox and the driver, 22 year old Tyler Blaise Wilbanks of Sylvania, was taken into custody in Pell City around 5:40 the following Wednesday morning. 

State Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division made the arrest, charging Wilbanks with Manslaughter, and felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
