The Piedmont Bulldogs are one of the hottest baseball teams in the state. The Bulldogs have won 15 in a row. Their last loss came back on March 11 in a 5-2 decision against Class 6A Pell City. And now, they’ve moved into the top spot in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association baseball rankings.
The Bulldogs (21-4) jumped two places to No. 1 this week in the Class 3A poll to overtake previously top-ranked Plainview (16-5), which dropped this week to No. 3. The latest poll was released early Thursday morning.
Piedmont wasn’t the only mover in this week’s rankings. Class 2A Spring Garden (11-8) dropped out of the poll this week, but still received a nomination, along with fellow area rival Sand Rock (5-4). Class 1A Cedar Bluff (9-5) maintained its No. 9 ranking.
Speaking of Cedar Bluff, the Lady Tiger softball team crept its way into the poll this week at No. 10. The Lady Tigers (14-6-2) have won seven in a row, including the Glencoe Classic over the weekend.
Spring Garden (10-6) holds steady at No. 7, while Piedmont (12-7) slipped a spot to No. 8.
