Spring Garden softball splits on final day of Spring Swing tournament

JACKSONVILLE – Spring Garden earned a split with Ragland and Randolph County on the final day of the Spring Swing Softball Tournament at Jacksonville State’s University Field on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers earned an 8-2 victory over Ragland but fell to Randolph County 6-4.

In the win over Ragland, the Lady Panthers pounded out 15 hits, led by Helena Ingram’s 4-for-4 performance. She had a double and scored a run.

Avery Steward went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Layla Ingram was also 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Bri Boles went 2-for-4 with two runs. Maggie Jarrett was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Kayley Kirk contributed a hit, a run and a RBI. Neely Welsh walked twice and scored a run. Abbey Steward walked and drove in two runs. Madison Brown also drew a walk.

Avery Steward earned the win after working six innings. She gave up two earned runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.

In the loss to Randolph County, the Lady Tigers rallied from a 4-1 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Abbey Steward led the Lady Panthers by going 2-for-3 with a RBI. Boles doubled and scored two runs. Helena Ingram delivered a hit and two RBIs. Avery Steward collected a hit, a walk and a run. Kirk, Jarrett and Layla Ingram each contributed a hit.

Avery Steward suffered the loss after working 4 2/3 innings. She gave up five earned runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
