The Alabama Teachers Credit Union in conjunction with WEIS Radio has selected Darren Peek as this month’s Cherokee County Community Hero.

Mr. Peek has served as a paramedic for the Cherokee County community for almost 23 years.

He says that the most rewarding part of his job is knowing that he made a difference in someone’s day.

When asked how individuals can get involved in the Cherokee County community, Peek said, “Become a volunteer with your local fire department, talk with someone in the Rescue Squad about becoming a member, we need police officers and EMTs.

 There is no satisfaction like the satisfaction that you get from helping someone else.”
