Vehicle Involved In Pursuit With Piedmont Police Found In Terrapin Creek

A vehicle was recovered from Terrapin Creek last week after it was involved in a pursuit with Piedmont Police and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.

According to reports, the pursuit began on Highway 21 at Mack Alexander Road in Calhoun County. The chase then continued into Cherokee County where officers made the decision to end the pursuit on County Rd 175 near the Redneck Yacht Club after the driver of the pickup truck went off the roadway and into a field.

Due to the wet saturated ground and off-road conditions, officers were unable to locate the vehicle as the driver continued down narrow four-wheeler trails to elude officers. After receiving information from family members the following day stating the male subject had contacted them saying he had fled from the police, wrecked his truck, and was seriously injured, Piedmont Police returned to the area, where the truck was last seen, along with deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency. EMA personnel were able to fly the area where he was last seen with a drone and eventually located the truck submerged in the creek, well off the main roadway.

Piedmont investigators were able to determine that the suspect had apparently been picked up by someone after he crashed and warrants for his arrest will be obtained at a later date.

The Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Piedmont Rescue, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also assisted.
