Latest on Severe Weather Possibility for Friday and Beyond

Strong to severe storms will be possible across much of Alabama starting overnight –   and all types of severe weather will be possible – with the most likely time for storms being during the early morning hours.   There will be a chance for more storms on Friday afternoon.

The strongest storms could have damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall – tornadoes  will also be possible.

All of south and parts of central Alabama will have a slight risk for severe weather.  A slight risk is Level 2 out of 5, and means scattered severe storms will be possible; the rest of Alabama has a Level 1 – or marginal – risk for storms.  That means that severe storms will be possible, but they are expected to be more isolated.

Those storms are expected to move into Alabama overnight and push eastward – and  There’s also a chance they could redevelop later that afternoon when the actual cold front approaches.  That afternoon threat isn’t as clear-cut and may not materialize if the atmosphere can’t recover from rain earlier in the day.
