Mrs. Sara D Johnson

Mrs. Sara D Johnson, age 95, of Centre, Alabama, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the Gadsden Regional Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama.  She was born on, September 14, 1926, to Earl and Iva Daniel in the Little River Community.

After graduating from The University of Montevallo in 1948 with a degree in nutrition, she began her working career as a dietitian at the Baptist Hospital Gadsden and subsequently, Cherokee County Hospital, Centre.  When she started her family, she was a “stay at home” mom who was very involved in her children’s activities.  At age 58, she went back to work for the next 33 years as an Insurance Agent.  Also, Sara taught a children’s Bible class at First Baptist Church of Centre for 50 years. She was involved in many organizations on behalf of her community including, Chamber of Commerce, Home Bound Department, Chairman Christmas Parade, and in 1983 she was the recipient of the Cherokee County Leadership Award. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and working at the 411 drive-in ticket office.  Sara was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emory G. Johnson, and her sisters, Kathryn Upton of Centre and Martha Vera Baker of Cedar Bluff.

She is survived by daughter Emily Bell and her husband Ron Bell of Johns Creek, Georgia, son, Carl Johnson of Centre and Rex Johnson and his wife Susan Johnson of Leesburg.  Also, by a host of other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 17, 2022, 2:00 PM at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel in Centre, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. First Baptist Church Pastor Eddie Nation officiating. Interment will follow at the Neal Hill Cemetery.
