Former Alabama Police Officer Charged with Murdering Northwest Georgia Woman

The District Attorney in Madison County, Alabama says that he’s planning to seek the death penalty for a former Huntsville, Alabama police officer accused of murdering a northwest Georgia woman.

David McCoy stands accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend – 26 year old Courtney Spraggins of Trion – in mid-January.  McCoy was off-duty at the time and that murder occurred at Weston Ranch Apartments in Huntsville, in Madison County, Alabama.

Madison County District Attorney Tim Gann said, “You’ve got a young woman who has her life ahead of her and an unborn child – those facts in of itself and based upon how she was killed it is clearly a case we will seek the death penalty on.”

McCoy has reportedly admitted to pulling the trigger and killing Spraggins – however he says that he doesn’t “remember how it happened.”  Defense attorney Brian Clark said McCoy did NOT state he did it on purpose, and says that the shooting “could have been an accident”.
