List of Candidates/Races in the May 24th Primary Election

WEIS Radio News has obtained the names of those running for office, locally and on a state level, which will affect the future of Cherokee County and surrounding areas.

Incumbent Ginny Shaver will be facing competition from Brett Rhodes, in the race for State Representative in District #39.  In the race for Alabama State Senate District 10, it’ll be a contest between incumbent Andrew Jones and Teresa Ray.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver will be running unopposed this time around – as will incumbent Corey Colbert for Place #2 and newcomer Nathan Ealy for Place #1 on the Cherokee County Board of Education.

Current County Coroner Paul McDonald is also running unopposed this election cycle

Carlton Teague will have no opposition in the race for Cherokee County Commission, District IV – while in District II current Commissioner Dr. Roger Nichols will be facing Kimball Parker, who has held the position in the past.

And in the race for District Attorney, Summer Suumerford will be facing Nick Jones – that following the retirement of long-time District Attorney Mike O’Dell.
