Former Summerville Police Department Employee Sentenced to 20 Year Term w/Four to Serve

On Wednesday of this week – a former employee with the City of Summerville Police Department was sentenced to a term of 20 years with 4 years in confinement and the remainder on probation for diverting funds from the Santa in Uniform organization – over a period of several years.  That sentence was handed down to Stacy Fountain, in Chattooga County Superior Court.  The theft reportedly began in 2010, and continued until the situation was discovered in 2017.

She was charged with diverting those funds for her own personal use – Fountain was additionally accused of diverting funds from the Drug Forfeiture account of the PD.  She was indicted on four counts of theft by taking and two counts theft by conversion along with one count of violation of oath by public officer.  Fountain was suspended from the police department, and subsequently resigned her position.  The GBI was called in to handle the investigation into the missing funds.

Because of the association with law enforcement in that area – the Lookout Mountain District Attorney’s office recused themselves from prosecuting the case, and it was in turn prosecuted by the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office.
