Rainfall Coming into the Area Wednesday with Heavy Rain and Flood Watches into Friday

The National Weather Service has already issued flood watches for the northern two-thirds of the state and say up to five inches of rain will be possible in some areas with most locations actually receiving between two and three inches.

The rain will begin today (Wednesday) as the slow-moving cold front enters the state – the heaviest rainfall is expected on Thursday and into Friday morning.  Some of the storms could be severe with high winds part of the package.

Flooding will also be a major concern; a “Flood Watch” will be in effect for all of north Alabama from late tonight through Thursday evening.

The rain will begin to move out on Friday, and cold air will rush in behind it, and that could lead to a slight possibility for some freezing rain in parts of northwest Alabama on Thursday night, into early Friday morning.  The weather service states that the air behind the front will also be dry and will likely limit the potential for freezing rain – but there could be a one to two hour window in far northwest Alabama that’ll have to be watched, just in case adverse weather starts to develop.
