Family Members Say Man Who Was Found Unconscious On Weiss Lake Suffered A Heart Attack

The man who was found unconscious on the lake bed near Mud Creek on Thursday has been identified by his family.

WEIS Radio News spoke to family members on Saturday who informed us that 48 year old John Hester was fishing on County Road 556 when he suffered a heart attack and collapsed.

A retired Rome Police Officer was among the first on the scene and was able to begin CPR. First Responders from the McCord’s Fire Department in addition to Rescue Squad, Cherokee EMA and Floyd EMS units also responded.

Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald was also called to the scene.

The family said that they would like to sincerely thank all agencies that were involved.  

Funeral services for John Hester will be Tuesday afternoon at 2p.m.  with visitation from 12-2 at Perry Funeral Home.
