Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents Of Phone Scam

Over the last couple of days, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department has had multiple reports telephone scams being made from individuals claiming to be the Chief Deputy at the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Jonathan Horton said that these scammers are causing fear with members in the community by threatening family members with arrest and jail time.

Sheriff Horton said that as a reminder – the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office will not demand any money, gift cards, or something of value be sent for the phone calls from law enforcement to go away.

If you receive a call you feel may be suspicious, do not provide personal or banking information. As we have stressed time and time again, simply hang up.
