A house fire occurring on Wingfield Street in West Rome, claimed the life of a 66-year old woman Friday evening.
According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning – firefighters were sent to the residence shortly after 8:00 that night, and found the structure to already be fully involved. neighbors told firefighters that Margaret Maxon was still inside.
Firefighters were able to quickly locate her but unfortunately – she didn’t survive the fire. An autopsy is pending. The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to have been accidental.
The home was a total loss.
Chewning said this was the second fatal fire in West Rome in January.
