Spring Garden basketball splits at Supreme Courts in Guntersville

GUNTERSVILLE – At the Supreme Courts in Guntersville on Monday, Spring Garden split a pair of varsity basketball games. The Lady Panthers defeated Susan Moore 65-42, but the Panther boys fell to Springville 58-39.

In the girls game, Neely Welsh led four players in double figures with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists. Ace Austin added 16 points, 11 boards, nine assists, a block and a steal. Sarah Kate McKay scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Kayley Kirk finished with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, with eight rebounds and an assist.

Spring Garden held a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 39-19 edge at halftime.

In the boys game, Jacob Welsh netted 14 points, four boards and a steal for the Panthers. John Welsh tossed in 13 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Andrew Bates finished with five points.

Springville jumped out to a 19-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter and held a 45-31 lead at halftime.
