Cherokee County Adds Two Additional School Resource Officers

SROs returned to school today after Christmas break with 2 additional deputies. Deputy Floyd Brooks was recently hired and is assigned to Centre Middle School. Deputy Brooks has over 10 years experience in law enforcement, including the last 6 as a SRO in Floyd County. He was the 2021 recipient of the Floyd County SRO of the Year award.

Also joining the SRO division is Deputy Tracy Nelson who has worked as a part-time patrol deputy for several years. Deputy Nelson is also retired from the Alabama Department of Conservation. He is assigned to the Cherokee County Career Tech School.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver said, “We are glad to be adding Floyd and Tracy to the SRO division. Both of them are excellent law enforcement officers and will be an asset to the schools.”
