CHEROKEE COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL: Welsh, Austin lead Panthers past Haralson County

SPRING GARDEN – Jacob Welsh netted 14 points and Cooper Austin added 13 in leading the Spring Garden Panthers past Haralson County 60-40 on Friday night in the Cherokee Invitational.

Andrew Floyd came away with eight points for the Panthers. John Welsh and Connor Bates had seven and six points respectively. Chaz Pope and Cam Welsh finished with five points apiece.

Noah Rasmuson led the Rebels with 10 points, including a pair of treys. Jayden Ross added nine points. Crane Benefield and Brody Salyers finished with six and five points respectively.

Spring Garden led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but went on an 18-8 run in the second to take a 32-19 halftime advantage. The Panthers held a 47-27 edge at the end of three quarters.

Haralson County takes on Gaylesville’s boys at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Garden battles Scottsboro on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Cherokee County 72, Gaylesville 21

SPRING GARDEN – Jack Amos sank four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points in leading the Cherokee County Warriors to a 72-21 victory over Gaylesville.

Landon Caldwell added 13 points for the Warriors. Jackson Neyman netted nine points. Gabe Chester and Jaden Wilson both contributed six points. Chester’s points came on a pair of treys. Braden Chandler finished with five points.

Kyler Bradley led the Trojans with 11 points. Kuper Bradley finished with five points.

The Warriors held a 17-7 lead the end of the first quarter, but then went on a 20-8 run in the second to take a 37-15 advantage into halftime. The Warriors extended their lead to 61-21 at the end of three quarters.

Gaylesville plays Haralson County, Ga., on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Cherokee County clashes with Scottsboro on at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
