Warriors sweep Ashville in Tuesday area basketball action

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors swept a varsity Class 4A, Area 10 basketball doubleheader with visiting Ashville on Tuesday evening. The Lady Warriors earned a 74-27 victory, while the Warrior boys claimed a 90-57 win in the nightcap.

In the girls game, Audrey Green rang for 22 points for the Lady Warriors (7-3). Mary Hayes Johnson added 11 points. Emily Allen added eight points and Vivian Connell collected seven points.

Savannah Pinkard led Ashville with eight points.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to an 18-3 lead in the first quarter and held a 37-10 advantage at the break. Cherokee County led 64-21 after three quarters.

In the boys game, Jack Amos sank five 3-pointers and finished with 30 points. Gabe Chester collected 12 points, all on four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Cade Hopper had 11 points, including three treys. Jaden Wilson and Jackson Neyman both rang for seven points. Eli Martin managed six points on a pair of treys for the Warriors (5-4).

The Warriors built an 18-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 44-28 advantage at halftime. They led 69-43 after three quarters.

Both Warrior teams play Gaylesville in the Cherokee Invitational at Spring Garden on Friday.
