Spring Garden’s Austin, Pope earn top honors from Class 2A, Region 6 football coaches

The Class 2A, Region 6 football coaches recently selected their All-Region team for the 2021 season. Region champion Spring Garden (12-1) had the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in senior wide receiver Cooper Austin and the Athlete of the Year in senior quarterback Chaz Pope.

Austin shares the Co-Offensive Player of the Year honor with Cleveland’s Pierce Gilliland. Cleveland (12-3) also had the Player of the Year in Logan Washburn, Defensive Player of the Year in Karter Adams, and Coach of the Year in Gardner Gilliland.

Joining Austin and Pope from Spring Garden is offensive lineman Mathias Williams, linebacker Andrew Floyd, and defensive linemen Landon Gowens, Cade Williams and Jackson Rogers. Honorable mention Panthers are Chapel Pope, Hunter Lewis, Cam Welsh, Zach Kerr and Denver Jarrett.

Cleveland also had eight other selections in running back Tyler Smith, wide receiver Jacob Johnson, offensive linemen Arturo Escamila and Riley Branham, defensive back Will Corder, linebacker Luis Saucedo, defensive lineman Kevin Chavez and kicker Jeremy Acosta. Honorable mention players are Gerardo Chavez, Colby Peace, Robert Curiel, Seth Putman, Brody Gibson and Noe Hernandez.

Sand Rock (7-4) had five selections running back Jacob Cornejo, wide receiver Olin Pruitt, tight end Logan Crider, offensive lineman Bradley Jackson and defensive back Tru Graham. Honorable mention players are Ace Ashley and Trace Haygood.

Southeastern (8-5) had six selections in quarterback Trent Carpenter, wide receiver Ben Hall, offensive lineman Omar Uriostegui, defensive back Cole Williams, and linebackers Noah McCray and Dylan Abbruzzo. Honorable mention players are Scott Sprayberry, Evan Albano, Auston Sargent, Micah Faulkner, Gabe Marsh and Dylan Roberts.

Westbrook Christian (4-6) had four selections in running back Karmichael Cattling, offensive linemen Hayes Wiggins and CJ Townsel and punter Layten Crawford. Honorable mention players are Jackson Shoars, Kinnedy Cranfield, Mason Coley, Jesi Andres, Aidan Hull, Hugh Windle and Gray Skelton.

West End (4-6) had a pair of selections in wide receiver Thad Pearce and linebacker Rockman Sainsbury. Honorable mention players are Isaiah Roberson, Ashton Self, Tyler Jones and Jake Edwards.

Locust Fork (3-7) also had a pair of selections in running back Johnathan Burgett and defensive back Matt Mitchell. Honorable mention players are Dylan Embry, Michael Mullins, Clayton Hollingsworth, Sean Harper, Angel Lopez, Austin Adams, Austin Pavolini and J.M. Whitehead.

Gaston (1-9) had a representative in defensive lineman Brady Underwood. Honorable mention players are Nemo Samples and Kobe Harris.
