Six area basketball teams ranked in first ASWA poll

Six area teams find themselves in the initial Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball rankings. The first basketball poll of the season was released early Thursday morning.

Spring Garden’s girls (6-1) are the highest ranked team of the bunch. The Lady Panthers come in at No. 2 behind Pisgah in the Class 2A poll. Not far behind is Sand Rock (9-0), which comes in at No. 4.

In Class 3A girls, Collinsville (5-3) comes in at No. 8.

One other area girls team received consideration: Class 4A Cherokee County (5-1).

In the boys rankings, Collinsville (3-4) is ranked ninth in Class 3A, while Sand Rock (6-4) and Cherokee County (4-2)are both at No. 10 in the Class 2A and 4A rankings respectively.

Class 2A Spring Garden (1-0) received a nomination.
