Anniston Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Setting Woman on Fire

An east Alabama man is behind bars – accused of setting a woman on fire.

Around 8:00am Sunday, Anniston Police Officers responded to the 800 block of West 16th Street on a report of a person being on fire; when they arrived on the scene they encountered a woman walking down the street who had sustained severe burns.

Leslie C. Hogeland, 36, of Gadsden, was taken to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center and then transferred on to UAB Hospital in Birmingham; her condition wasn’t immediately available but family members stated she was burned from the waist up, including her face and is now awake and conscious.

An investigation led to the arrest of 54 year old Henry Wesley on Attempted Murder charges.  The warrant says Wesley poured gasoline on Hogeland, and he then ignited her.  The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not yet been released.

Wesley is currently being held in the Calhoun County Jail on $100,000 bond.  He has a court date set for January 10th of 2022.
