Eighth-ranked Wadley wallops Gaylesville, 48-14

WADLEY – Gaylesville’s football season ended at Class 1A, No. 8 Wadley in the first round of the state playoffs Friday night by the final of 48-14.

Jacob Marable scored four touchdowns on runs of 20, 5, 5 and 8 yards to lead the Bulldogs (10-1). Jumall Buchanan added a pair of scores on runs of 57 and 40 yards. Lakevion O’Neal scored the Bulldogs’ other touchdown on an 18-yard run.

Wadley built a 28-0 lead at halftime.

Gaylesville (6-5) finally got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter on Jacob Gordon’s 45-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion failed.

The Trojans’ final touchdown came on Kyler Bradley’s 29-yard touchdown pass to Seth Lee with about three minutes to go in the game. Gordon added the 2-point conversion for the final.

Gordon led the Trojans with 74 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown and 2-point conversion. He also had eight tackles and an assist on defense. Bradley threw for 68 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Keylon Higgins made four stops, including one for loss and an assist. Hunter Penney had five tackles and two assists. Lee also recovered a fumble on defense.

Wadley hosts Hubbertville in the second round next Friday.
