A study recently published using data from 2019 has ranked Alabama counties by a “median income” level: the point dividing the population into two groups – the upper and lower earning halves (which varies widely across the state)
At the time that study was conducted, the median household income across the U.S. was $68,703 (according to rankings by Stacker)
That same ranking compiled a list of highest-earning counties in Alabama using data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Based on that data only the top two Alabama counties – Shelby and Madison – ranked above the national median. Cherokee County ranked #37 in the state, with a median household income of $41,919; that’s 17.1% below the state median and 33.3% below the national median.
