For the first time since the 2016 preseason poll, the Cherokee County Warriors (5-1) have climbed into the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s high school football rankings.

The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.

Coming off a 34-21 victory over Munford, the Warriors enter the Class 4A poll at No. 9. They’ll put that ranking to the test this Friday when they travel to top-ranked and defending state champion Handley (5-0).

In Class 2A, the Spring Garden Panthers (6-0) moved up a spot to No. 6 following a 47-0 victory over Gaston. The Panthers travel to Westbrook Christian (2-4) on Friday.

One other Class 2A area team received consideration for this week’s rankings: the Sand Rock Wildcats (5-1). Sand Rock is coming off a 56-14 win at Locust Fork and will travel to West End of Walnut Grove (4-3) this Friday.

In Class 3A, the Piedmont Bulldogs (5-1) dropped two places to No. 4 following their 28-24 loss at Ohatchee. The Bulldogs look to rebound this Friday when they host Pleasant Valley (1-5) for homecoming.
