Auburn Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with Shooting Death of 13-Month Old Child

A suspect is now in custody – in connection with the shooting death of a 13 month old Opelika child over the weekend.

Just after 3:00pm Saturday – Auburn Police were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Shug Jordan Parkway, where they arrived to find the little girl to be suffering a wound in the upper torso. 

First responders immediately attempted life-saving measures; she was then taken by ambulance to the East Alabama Medical Center ER; despite their efforts, the little girl was pronounced dead at 4:25pm.

Later that day, police arrested 33-year old Michael Thomas on a felony manslaughter charge; he was also charged with possession of marijuana, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thomas was taken to the Lee County Jail, where bond was set at $33,500.

No additional information surrounding the incident has been released at this point.
