Ashley throws for 4 scores, runs for another in Sand Rock’s 56-14 win at Locust Fork

LOCUST FORK – Sand Rock junior quarterback Ace Ashley completed 12-of-15 pass attempts for 242 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a score in leading the Wildcats to a 56-14 blowout at Locust Fork in Class 2A, Region 6 football action on Friday for their fifth road win of the season.

Ashley’s top target was junior tight end Logan Crider, who caught five passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns. The duo accounted for the Wildcats’ first score on a 48-yard connection with 8:50 remaining in the first quarter.

Tru Graham then recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, putting Sand Rock on top 14-0 with 7:29 left in the opening quarter.

Ashley ran in for a 2-yard touchdown to end the first-quarter scoring, giving the Wildcats a 21-0 edge.

The Hornets opened the second quarter on Dylan Embry’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Burgett. The extra point was no good, keeping the score at 21-6.

The Wildcats scored two more times before the first half ended to go up 35-6. Jacob Cornejo accounted for the first score on a 7-yard run, then Ashley connected with Crider on an 8-yard touchdown.

Ashley and Crider hooked up once more on a 26-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, pushing Sand Rock’s lead to 42-6.

An Ashley-to-Heath Driver 44-yard touchdown and Carson Chesnut’s 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter provided Sand Rock with a 56-6 lead.

Embry connected with Burgett on a 19-yard touchdown pass for the final.

Brian Giles had two interceptions in the game for the Wildcats.

Sand Rock (5-1, 3-1) travels to West End of Walnut Grove on Friday.
