Following their respective first losses of the high school football season, Spring Garden and Sand Rock both dropped in the latest Class 2A Alabama Sports Writers Association football rankings. The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.

Spring Garden (3-1) fell four spots to No. 7 following its 20-13 setback at Cleveland. Meanwhile, Sand Rock (3-1) tumbled out of the poll after being ranked seventh last week.

The two teams look to get back on track this Friday, when the Panthers host Class 4A Hokes Bluff (2-2) and the Wildcats travel to Class 3A Collinsville (2-3).

The Piedmont Bulldogs (4-0) remained at No. 2 in the Class 3A rankings following their record-setting 70-13 win over Weaver last Friday. The Bulldogs still trail top-ranked Fyffe (4-0) in the rankings and will host Class 4A Jacksonville (3-2) on Friday.

One other area football team received consideration for this week’s poll: Class 4A Cherokee County (3-1). The Warriors, coming off a 40-0 victory at White Plains, host Coosa, Ga. (0-3) for homecoming this Friday.
