Periods of Heavy Rainfall Across the Area / “Flash Flood Watch” in Effect

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the counties served by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

DAY ONE – Outlook through Tonight

Heavy rain at times may occur across the northern half of Central Alabama through the early evening.  The heavy rain will be isolated, but one to two inches may fall in a short period of time, resulting in flash flooding.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING

Flash Flood Watch continues for portions of – central Alabama, east central Alabama, northeast Alabama, northwest Alabama and west central Alabama, including the following areas, in central Alabama, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa,  Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega and Walker. In east central Alabama, Calhoun, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Randolph and Tallapoosa. In northeast Alabama, Cherokee and Etowah. In northwest Alabama, Marion and Winston. In west central Alabama, Fayette, Lamar and Tuscaloosa.

* Periods of locally heavy rain are possible today. Ground conditions are saturated from rainfall over the past few days and any heavy downpours could result in flash flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should any Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
