Two Arrested in Flat Rock on Drug-Related and other Charges

Two people were arrested on multiple charges in DeKalb County following execution of warrants on Monday of this week (September 13th).

DeKalb County Deputies traveled to a residence on County Road 159 in Flat Rock and as they were speaking to Audrey Denise Welden about the warrants Carlton Coolidge Welden, age 45, came running out of the house, and he headed into a nearby wooded area.

The Ider Police Department, Henagar Police Department and the DeKalb County K-9 Unit along with DeKalb County Narcotics Agent and the DeKalb County Investigations Unit all responded to assist in locating Welden.  A few minutes later, DeKalb K-9 Dolly, had located the suspect in the woods, hiding in some brush; once Welden had been apprehended he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

In addition to two outstanding warrants for Non-Payment of Child Support – Carlton Welden was charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree, with the Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Attempting to Elude Police and Resisting Arrest.

Audrey Welden was also taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, with the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest and Theft of Property 1st Degree.

“The event on County Road 159 shows again the importance of working together and it’s safe to say our county is blesses with Departments working together from North to South and continuing to make a difference together.  This also shows the importance of our additional assets such as K-9 Dolly, without her we may still be looking for this subject, but now we know exactly where to find him.”

~ Sheriff Nick Welden
