COVID Cases Continue to Overwhelm Area Medical Facilities

According to a news release – on Monday there was a total of 109 COVID-19 patients at Floyd Medical Center in Rome; there were 51 patients on critical respiratory care.

Ventilators and oxygen supplies are reportedly low as the surge fueled by the highly-contagious Delta variant continues.

A Northwest District Department of Public Health spokesperson called the situation “desperate” for area hospitals and he urged people to get vaccinated.

He went on to say “Hospitals have an enormous number of COVID cases at this point, and, Monday morning, three hospitals had patients on ventilators in the emergency room waiting to be admitted; one hospital in northwest Georgia was forced to ask for  extra supplies of ventilators from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency; also, oxygen is in very short supply”

Statewide, there were 13,292 confirmed cases between Friday and Monday, with 128 confirmed deaths.
