The annual budget, exceeding $22 million, was passed during the Monday meeting of the Cherokee County Commission – afterwards we spoke with Commission Chairman Tim Burgess, who shared some extremely good news with us regarding pay rates for county employees:

That substantial raise should help to alleviate a problem the county has been dealing with for quite some time:

Progress is also being made on the New Courthouse Construction Project – as several actions were taken regarding that initiative; the Commission also approved the long-term detention subsidy contract with the Alabama Department of Youth Services, for another year; and funds were approved for a long-running youth program, which has provided guidance and assistance to a huge number of individuals over the years:

Chairman Burgess also wished to thank the Commission for devoting additional time to studying the budget items earlier than usual so that everything could be dealt with in advance of the deadline to put the new budget into place, and he also extended his sincere appreciation to the individual that made sure everything was in order, ready for the commissioners to sign:

That next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, is set for Monday, September 27th beginning at 5:00pm taking place in the County Administration Building located on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
