There was a single-vehicle accident taking place around 3:00am Friday slightly north of Leesburg on Alabama Highway 68.
Reports indicate the driver lost control the vehicle at Bristow Gap Road – going down the mountainside before crashing into a heavily wooded area.
It took several minutes for emergency personnel to actually locate that vehicle – with the male driver being taken from the scene of the accident, to the ER at Floyd Medical Center in Centre, where he was stabilized; he was then transported to Rome.
Leesburg Police and Fire Units along with members of both the Centre and Sand Rock Fire Departments, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Rescue Squad, and Floyd EMS all responded.
We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
