WALNUT GROVE – Chaz Pope and Cam Welsh both ran for 144 yards and scored a touchdown apiece to lead Class 2A, No. 4 Spring Garden to a 28-0 Region 6 football victory at West End of Walnut Grove on Friday.
Andrew Floyd also added 94 yards on 15 carries, including the Panthers’ first touchdown on a 6-yard run with 2:47 to go in the first quarter. The 2-point try was no good, keeping the score at 6-0 Spring Garden.
It remained a 6-0 contest until the third quarter, when Pope and Welsh scored on 3-yard runs. Welsh and Cooper Austin added the 2-point conversions respectively, pushing the Panther lead to 22-0.
Austin added a 17-yard touchdown reception with 2:53 remaining in the game for the final. He led the Panther receivers with four catches for 54 yards.
Pope finished completing 6-of-11 pass attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Floyd led Spring Garden (2-0, 1-0) with six tackles. Jacob Welsh and Jackson Rogers both finished with five stops. Austin had an interception.
Spring Garden hosts Locust Fork on Friday.
