The was a widespread internet outage Wednesday affecting everything from medical service providers, businesses, law enforcement, tv and cable service – and yes – radio stations, from around 3:00pm until 10:00 last night.
Internet providers including Weiss Internet and Charter-Spectrum were affected as a result of an 18-wheeler snagging power lines and pulling down three or possibly four poles on Alabama Highway 9 in the Piedmont area.
According to reports, a power line was leaning after ground had become saturated in the heavy rains and windy conditions occurring earlier in the week. When the big rig yanked the poles to the ground – service was affected because those same poles were hosting lines that facilitate internet service, as opposed to being underground cables.
