Coming off an impressive 40-0 season-opening win over Cedar Bluff, the Class 2A Spring Garden Panthers (1-0) jumped three spots to No. 4 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association high school football rankings.

The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.

The Panthers received two first-place votes and will travel to West End of Walnut Grove (1-1) this Friday.

Mars Hill (1-1), Lanett (1-1) and Geneva County (1-0) are the top three teams in this week’s 2A rankings.

Class 3A Piedmont (1-0) maintained its No. 2 ranking behind Fyffe (1-0) following a 27-0 victory over Cherokee County (0-1) last Friday. The Bulldogs, who received a first-place vote, battle No. 10 Saks (2-0) on Friday.

Two other area teams received consideration for this week’s rankings: Class 1A Cedar Bluff (0-1) and Class 2A Sand Rock (1-0).

Cedar Bluff fell from No. 8 in last week’s poll and will host Valley Head (0-2) this Friday. Sand Rock travels to No. 8 Westbrook Christian, also on Friday.
