Mr. William Thomas “Tommie” Pettyjohn

Mr. William Thomas “Tommie” Pettyjohn, age 88, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Pettyjohn was born March 20, 1933, in Cedar Bluff, AL, son of the late Jacob Deed and Donia Bentley Pettyjohn.  He was a member and deacon of New Prospect # 1 Baptist Church.  He was retired from General Electric after 30 years of service.

  Mr. Pettyjohn enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his garden.

  He was a lifelong residence of Cherokee County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Reno Pettyjohn, Charlsie Covington, Nancy Gilliam, and Ruth Pierce; and a brother, Voy Pettyjohn.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Nettie Steele Pettyjohn; son, Tim Pettyjohn; daughters, Angie (Rick) Locklear, Freda (Donald Joe) Hughes, and Kim (Dewayne) Gregg; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon (E.S.T.) Thursday, September 1, 2021, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Caleb Gregg officiating.  Interment will follow in Mount Bethel Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.

Mr. Pettyjohn will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) on Wednesday.
