Suspect Eludes Leesburg Police, Arrest/Charges Forthcoming

A suspect managed to elude Leesburg Police Chief Brent Grimes following an incident on Friday.

Chief Grimes told WEIS Radio News that a Centre Firefighter/Leesburg Reserve Police Officer made contact with two individuals passed out in a vehicle on Keener Drive just off Industrial Blvd. just after noon.

Additional assistance was requested from a uniform officer and Chief Grimes arrived on the scene and removed the male driver from the vehicle. Grimes said that he was given consent to search the vehicle and was removing the female from the car when the driver jumped back in the car and fled the scene.

The vehicle continued up Highway 68 and down a road near the Bed/Breakfast where the driver jumped a large tree. Chief Grimes said that at that point he ended the pursuit do to the terrain. Despite severe damage to the car, the driver managed to flee.

Chief Grimes said that they know the identity of the suspect and an arrest will be made when warrants are signed.
